Although the four carriers, DHL, FedEx, UPS & USPS are called small package carriers some of the packages that they carry are far from small. For most shipments the small package carriers are more than adequate to handle their needs.
While all the carriers have gone to what's call dimensional weight it comes into play at different sizes, by using Parcel Room you are ensured that you are receiving the most up to date information. We offer all of our customers choice, quality and convenience.
To give you an idea of the carriers limits,

USPS = 108" Length and girth combined for priority and express mail, you can ship via parcel post up to 130" but it is usually not practical.
DHL, FedEx & UPS all have two tier limits, the first limit is 130" and the second is 165". Packages under the 130" limit travel with regular rates and fees based on the exact size, weight and destination. Packages that exceed the 130" limit but are under the 165" limit are charged a large package surcharge. Plus minimum weight fees, while the 165" limit allows more items to be shipped via the small carriers it carries its own penalties.
Once the item is above the 165" limit then shipments must go with freight. In some cases we end up going freight even prior to reaching the size limits. We look at the overall shipment and compare all the shipping options available.

Once items exceed safe shipping with the small carriers due to size, weight or fragility then freight becomes the next option. At Parcel Room we have many carriers available to choose from, each carrier we select is select from history. We look for choice, quality and convenience from our carriers just as our customers expect from us.
When we select a carrier the price is not the only criteria, we are aware of that carriers history of shipping that type of product for us to that area of the country. While price is high on the list, it is not the driving force of our choice. The needs of you and your shipment dictate which carrier we recommend.
Freight is a complex form of shipping when compared to most other modes of transportation. With the National Motor Freight Classifications (NMFC) this is a form of classification for every product shipped. Everything transported falls into a Freight Class, and therefore has a NMFC # .
Truck freight is the most widely used form of transportation in the US, virtually everything that moves within the states moves by LTL (Less Than Truckload). Blanketwrap Service
With blanketwrap service usually two man driving teams are trained in the packing and moving of pianos, artwork and antique furniture. The trucks used are specially designed and equipped with air-ride suspension, an extensive logistical tie-down system.
Teams will carefully inspect and disassemble each item, as needed, before moving it. Each item is carefully wrapped in shipping pads. We tie each item off, from it's strongest structural points.

Some options for shipping international destination is to send by air freight or ocean freight (surface), At Parcel Room we maintain relationships with several carriers that give us a wide range of service to offer you, our customer.
Small freight shipments can sometimes move less via air freight rather than by ocean freight. This is due to the minimums charged for freight handling via the ocean. We always keep the option to go air or ocean open to pricing so that we can in turn offer you the best rate for the service that best matches your needs.
Ocean shipping has a normal time in transit of approximately 25-35 days, air freight is usually 7-14 days in transit. Most carriers will not deliver shipment to residential items unless they are new products and being shipped by a business. Delivery to the terminals allows the receiver to clear customs themselves and save some funds.
Shipping can be done in packages or crates, on pallets or even the large steel shipping containers. Care must be taken when shipping to international destinations that the packaging meets export requirements.

To be able to offer our customers with complete service, we have several vehicles available to meet the needs of each customer. We have a regular van up to a 24 foot box truck, our box truck is equiped with a lift gate and we also have a forklift available at the office.
